SPEAK & SPICE

SPEAK & SPICE is an Erasmus+ Small-scale Partnership in Adult Education that promotes language learning, social inclusion and intercultural dialogue through cooking. The project focuses on migrant women who often face language barriers, social isolation and limited access to formal education.

Instead of traditional classroom-based courses, SPEAK & SPICE uses culinary-based language learning, transforming kitchens into innovative learning spaces. Language is practised naturally through everyday actions such as following recipes, asking questions, collaborating with others and sharing cultural traditions.

The project brings together partners from Croatia, Spain and Ireland to develop practical, accessible and transferable learning approaches that support integration and lifelong learning.

Main Results

Methodological Toolkit for Educators
The project will produce a practical toolkit for adult educators and trainers that explains how to design and facilitate culinary-based language learning workshops. The toolkit will include structured guidance, examples of activities, and practical tips for creating inclusive, non-formal learning environments for migrant women.

Digital Recipe Booklet for Language Learning
A multilingual digital recipe booklet will combine traditional recipes with everyday vocabulary, phrases and simple language tasks. Designed for real-life use, the booklet supports functional language learning while encouraging cultural exchange and shared storytelling around food.

Culinary-Based Language Learning Workshops
Hands-on workshops will be implemented in Croatia, Spain and Ireland, offering migrant women a safe and supportive space to practise language while cooking together. These workshops strengthen communication skills, confidence and social connections, while reducing barriers to participation in adult education.

Strengthened Inclusion and Community Engagement
By bringing together migrant women, educators and local communities, SPEAK & SPICE fosters intercultural dialogue and social inclusion. The project creates sustainable learning models that can be replicated by adult education centres, NGOs and community organisations beyond the project duration.
